Around the 250th anniversary of the Declaration, the project director appeared on local stations coast to coast, sharing Nationhood Lab’s work with hundreds of thousands of American viewers
As America prepared to celebrate the 250th birthday of the Declaration of Independence, project director Colin Woodard did a national television and radio tour, appearing on fourteen local television broadcasts in ten states and the District of Columbia to share Nationhood Lab’s work on our historic divisions and the story that can hold us together.
He shared insights from his work on the regional divides in the U.S.as well as the project’s polling-based findings on the continuing power of the ideals in the Declaration, which envision a civic — rather than a “blood and soil” — definition of the country. These findings are unpacked in our 2025 report, The Story of America: A Rebooted Civic National Narrative for the United States. Hundreds of thousands of viewers saw the appearances.
Woodard appeared on the morning shows of the Fox affiliates in DC (WTTG), Austin, Texas (KTBC) and Oklahoma City (KOKH); ABC affiliates WFTS (Tampa), KOMO (Seattle), WVEC (Norfolk), WHTM (Harrisburg) and KTUL (Oklahoma City); NBC stations in Greenville, SC (WYFF), Charlotte, NC (WCNC) and Springfield, MA (WWLP); and CW affiliates KCWE in Kansas City, MO, KUNS in Seattle and KPHL in Philadelphia. He was also on BronxNet Community Television‘s Open program and on the national Daily Flash.
He also did 18 radio and podcast interviews in markets across the country, including Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia. Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania and New England, bring Nationhood Lab’s work to a wide cross-section of Americans as they celebrated the Semiquincentennial. Additionally, he was interviewed by BBC News, Politico, and PRI’s The World.
Nationhood Lab, a project at Salve Regina University’s Pell Center, examines regional issues in American life and has developed a revised civic national story for the 21st century United States tied to the ideals in the Declaration.
